P.C. Image Consulting Newsletter:  January 2009

Happy New Year, my dear readers! Welcome to the challenge of 2009!  Are you ready to take on the challenges and keep winning through the whole year?  Imagine being surrounded by people with worried faces and shabby clothes: what would you feel and do?  Would you become one of them or be just the opposite?

I cannot emphasise too much how important it is to project a healthy and polished image in these tough economic times. How important it is to set yourself apart from the rest to become the best you can be both inside and out.  It definitely takes a positive attitude to project an outstanding image every day.  Seeing is believing, and people will trust you can do well in these unsettled times just by looking at you.

Many professionals give the issue of image a low priority, especially in difficult times.  It is not a necessity in their eyes at all.  This is a big mistake!  If you can do an ordinary thing in an extraordinary way every day, success is at hand.  Wake up, Get up and Dress up!  And PC Image wishes you every success in 2009!

Dressing up for an interview – Countdown Checklist

The job market in HK is getting tougher and tougher. What can you do in an interview to outclass others and win the job? Although your technical knowledge and experience play important parts, the way you present yourself is also vital. It takes only thirty short seconds for an interviewer to form a perception of you, so be prepared and pay attention to the following points:

For Men and Women

  1. No fancy hairstyles and accessories – have a clean, simple look
  2. Make sure your fingernails are clean
  3. Wear a light perfume or aftershave
  4. Wear conservative and polished shoes darker than your pants to establish a stable image
  5. Pay attention to the fit of your suit – it tells how polished and assured you are as a professional. It follows that if you feel comfortable and confident in your clothes, your interviewer will sense your assurance and feel positive about you too
  6. Create a color contrast in your clothing to give strength and energy to your overall look
  7. If you wear a patterned suit, make sure it is subtle and simple.

For Women Only

  1. By all means use makeup, but avoid a heavy or obvious look
  2. Avoid strong colors on your fingernails – choose something light.
